Do you remember life before the internet?
The first half of my life was “before the Internet”. Really, I base that off of how much influence it has had in my life over the years. I had a commodore 64 in 1985 that printed uncolored banners for birthday parties and I can remember sitting playing Q*Bert for hours. But those were just adding fun to our life, right? Now I feel like the internet sucks the life out of us.
I recently watched a documentary called “the social dilemma” and it made me feel sorry for the generations who grow up only knowing the Internet. Or only knowing social media. It’s been the drug of choice for everyone it seems.
Before the Internet we were never home as kids. Everything was in real time and real connections. And now I sound every bit my age. I find myself trying to figure out ways that the Internet, well really social media, can be used better. If our younger generations are losing out in the fundamentals of in person friendships but also have the world at their fingertips, how can we merge the two?
